In the spirit of Santa Fe Art Week, Ventana Fine Art has partnered with Golden Artist Colors to offer a lecture and demo of their acrylic paints as well as their Williamsburg Oils in Ventana’s beautiful east courtyard. The event is free and open to anyone interested in learning more about acrylics, oils and mediums. Space is limited to 30 participants for the Acrylic demo and 15 people for the Oil demo. Reservations are required, so please contact the gallery to reserve a space. Ventana will provide beverages, snacks and a light lunch after the demonstration.
The Golden lecture/demo is a two-hour, free educational presentation that covers Williamsburg Oils , the New Watercolor QOR and presents in depth , the acrylic paints, gels and mediums that Golden has been well known for since it started making paint in the 1980‘s. It covers information about the different types of pigments, different viscosity and types of paints, grounds and color mixing. Various gels and mediums are demonstrated. You will learn how to extend paint to save money, and how to mix paints with gels to create unique textural surfaces. Learn how to use different products to make surfaces for watercolors, graphite, charcoal, colored pencil, oil and soft pastels. Techniques for the use of iridescent and metallic paints will be shown. The lecture covers the light-fastness of pigments, proper acrylic priming techniques, digital mixed media applications , correct varnishing tips and health and safety concerns.
A packet of literature and free samples of paint and gels will be available for all those who attend.
This lecture and demonstration will be an introduction to Williamsburg Oils , the paints that the late Carl Plansky initially made for the use of himself and his friends and that eventually became the gold standard of artists oils and mediums . The passion that drove Carl’s search for the most beautiful raw materials in the world is evident in the quality and exquisite color of these paints .
In the spring of 2010 Golden Artist Colors assumed responsibility for realizing Carl’s dream for truly unique paints and mediums that reflect not only the traditions of painting in Europe and North America, but the artist’s passion that drives them forward. Carl himself claimed that only Golden Artist Colors could make oil paints with the same integrity and style of Williamsburg .
Literature and free samples of paint will be available for all those who attend.
