Many of us enjoy visiting art museums and galleries, and yet, research has shown that we spend just 15-30 seconds looking at one work of art, if that. For a rich and nuanced art experience, a glance won’t do. Contemplating artwork is an art in itself.
During this event, you’ll look at art with fresh eyes, explore your personal connections to art, and introduce mindful contemplation into your gallery-going repertoire through relaxed conversation and simple, effective techniques for engaging more deeply with art. Artists, art enthusiasts, and art skeptics welcome –– these practices are perfect for anyone, regardless of prior experience with art.
Talk is presented by Elaine Ritchel, the founder of Santa Fe Art Tours. Elaine has a master’s degree in art history and has worked as a gallery teacher and art museum educator in the US and abroad. She specializes in discussion-based teaching and creates meaningful, art-centered experiences that promote visual literacy, inspire personal awareness, and deepen connections with the world around us. After a three-year stint in Croatia, where she worked at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb and the Croatian Association of Artists, Elaine returned to New Mexico to launch Santa Fe Art Tours.
Elaine is also an arts, culture, and travel writer.
