Abi Salami is a Nigerian-American visual artist based in Dallas, Texas.
A self-taught artist, Salami graduated with a Masters in Professional Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin and worked in public accounting and real estate for almost a decade before deciding to follow her passion for art as a full-time career.
Her work is greatly inspired by master surrealism artists such as Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte and Frida Kahlo. When creating her artwork, Salami lets her subconscious mind run free and then challenges her conscious mind to make sense of these thoughts on canvas. She uses symbolism in her work based on her own visual vocabulary to convey her message. Through her work, she hopes to give the world a glimpse into her mind and share intimate parts of her that she might not feel comfortable talking about, but feels comfortable translating on canvas.
Her works are currently on display at the African American Museum of Dallas.
