In her decades spanning exploration of the traditional art of oil painting, ANITA LEWIS has created her style out of textural exploration of themes, having a certain “ethereal” earthiness to it. Born in Los Angeles, yet influenced by her European life abroad, she has managed to fuse the modern with the ancient and the reclaimed with the sparkle in her abstractions. She creates scenes that remind of something, yet, are untold stories. “I don’t tell you what to see; you create your own story”. One finds her love for detail in the obscure, noting every minuscule application up close, yet creating the bigger picture from afar, much as Claude Monet managed to pull off. Like Monet or Jackson Pollock, painting large takes on importance.
Her painting life has led her to exhibitions in Italy, Germany, Argentina, and all over the US, and features in magazines and television. Not only is her abstract art enjoyed worldwide by many collectors, but her love for the Ballet world and the Motorsport world have led her to further opportunities of oil painting exploration and exciting exhibition ideas.
Currently you will find her art exhibited in San Diego CA, Sarasota FL, Dallas TX, Palm Desert CA, Cape Cod MA, Rockaway NJ, Cortona Italy, as well as international juried shows. Her collectors are in London UK, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, South America, USA, and Canada.
Some of my pieces are known as “Fusion Art” , as I fuse two painting panels together with a stick of metal. I work with Aluminum, Copper, and Brass, to give that Silver, Red-Gold, and Gold feel. A bit of “bling” is also added with silver, copper, or gold leaf integrated into the painting. When I choose to frame my work, I choose a hand-crafted frame by Andy Sibley. Our frames are an integral part of my work, as it lends that industrial, weathered, patina look also to the frame, supporting the idea of the weathered and detail in the obscure look to my art, a very natural, yet industrial look.
My abstract work is known to create a peaceful, yet interesting atmosphere in the home. Designers as well as discerning home-owners are my collector base, both nationally and internationally. The industrial look to the paintings lend a bit of modern edginess and compatibility with eclectic architectural themes. I offer commissioned work as well, for that special look being created in the home.

Art Santa Fe 2019- RUSTY SILOS by Anita Lewis
Inspirational Encounter in West Texas
Santa Fe— July 18, 2019 — At the opening of Art Santa Fe, Artist Anita Lewis will debut her latest of RUSTY SILOS series depicting her inspiration from a 2015 road trip in West Texas. Her story: Entering a small town, she exclaimed “STOP!!!”, to let her out and see what all the colors were about. Standing in front of huge industrial rusty silos, she clicked away with her camera to capture these amazing hues and undulations of weathering and chemical effects on metal. Arriving home and back in her artist studio, she commenced on a project to explore this theme with her art. Over the last years she has created numerous works of art depicting the idea of decomposition and oxidation using an array of colors, thick paint, much layering and removal, scratching, rubbing, stenciling, metal leafing, and dragging of paint. Her latest of the series can be seen at Art Santa Fe, an international juried art exhibition showcasing some of the best artists in the industry.
“When I first spotted those great big industrial silos on the side of the road, I was totally taken in by the colors. It seemed to depict what I have been trying to do on canvas for years”, according to Anita Lewis.
Lewis has been painting abstract oil on canvas for most of her life, both stateside and in Europe and has collectors worldwide. Clients have noted the peacefulness and detail in the obscure of her paintings, contributing to the home’s positive atmosphere. Many art galleries have hosted her work, and a few select ones continue to do so. “Anita’s work is so inspirational and adds to our home’s ambience. When I descend the stairs everyday her work greets me, and I know the day will be good” says a client in San Diego. “We are art collectors and we commissioned her to do multiple works and the outcome was just so amazing”. One further testimony exclaims “Her story is fascinating, and we cannot wait to meet her” says the actual business owner, to whom she recently reached out to after researching the silos.
Lewis has her studio in Oceanside, CA and has been oil painting since 11. She sold her first commission at 14. After graduating in Art and Design from Cal State Northridge and pursuing a successful career in interior architecture and design, she lay down her drafting tools to resume her art career full time in 2006. Highlights have included a painting for Misty Copeland and grabbing a unique opportunity as a woman in the motorsport world, painting live at Formula 1 in Austin, Texas at the COTA track with her Abstract Motorsport Series.
The latest RUSTY SILOS series will be available as of July 2018, where she has painted multiple originals for the exhibition at Art Santa Fe, an international juried art exhibition where Lewis has been invited to participate for many years at Art Expo NY, Art Expo Las Vegas, Spectrum Indian Wells, Art San Diego, and now for the first time at Art Santa Fe, where she will also be participating in the Art Talks and Meet and Greet. The exhibition will run from July 18-21st, 2019 at the Convention Center, Santa Fe, NM.
